11-day Itinerary *

In this section I'll give you a break down of what we're doing each day, in terms of location. There's a further section down the page which deals with what to expect as a daily schedule.

Day 1:
Arrival in Chitose. Evening meal at local hotel & restaurant.

Day 2:
This morning we depart for Biei towards the centre of Hokkaido. This area has much farmland with single lone trees. Evening meal and hotel in Biei.

Day 3 & 4:
Today we spend all day around Biei shooting the landscape. Evening meal and hotel in Biei.

Day 5:
Today we depart from Biei towards the east side of the country. We will arrive at Lake Akan for our evening shoot. Evening meal and hotel at Lake Akan.

Day 6:
Today we will spend time around Akan national park and visit some of the surrounding landscapes of forest colours and mountain views. Evening meal and hotel at Lake Akan.

Day 7:
Today we will shoot around Akan national park before departing for Kussharo. Evening meal and hotel in Kussharo.

Day 8:
Perhaps one of my favourite locations, the area of Kushharo has many beautiful lone trees, forests and lakes to photograph. Evening meal and hotel in Kussharo.

Day 9:
Today we move towards the nature reserve of Notsuke. We have been granted special permission to photograph inside the nature reserve over the next day. Evening meal and hotel in Notsuke.

Day 10:
We will visit and photograph some woodland and coastal areas around Notsuke nature reserve. Evening meal and hotel in Notsuke.

Day 11:
Morning shoot at Notsuke before departing for the airport at Kushiro.

Daily Schedule Outline

Each day will have the following format:

Sunrise in October comes early at around 6am. I would like to be on loation for 5:30am each morning so we may be leaving the hotel at 5am most mornings. We will be up around 4:30am most mornings to take advantage of the light. Sunset is early around 5:30pm each evening.

Sunrise is at approximately 6am while sunset is early at 4:30pm, meaning we'll be back at our hotel for dinner and some well earned time off in the evenings.

5:30 - 7:00am
On location for sunrise.

7:30 - 9:00am
Breakfast.

9:30am - 12:30pm
Heading back out to shoot for the remainder of the day.
12:30pm - 1:30pm
Lunch at a local Japanese Restaurant.

1:30 - 4:30pm
Late afternoon shooting where we will stay out until after sunset and twilight has finished.

6:00 - 7:00pm
Evening dinner at a japanese restaurant either at the hotel or in town.

7:30
Back to the hotel where we can try the Onsen (Japanese spring baths - highly recommended).
